Given directly by departments to a limited number of first-year students. Awards vary in value. Application made through individual departments. Audition or portfolio review usually required. Retention of award requires recipients to remain in good academic standing.
Education Fellows Scholarship Competition
The Education Department offers $2,000 to $4,000 Merit Scholarships for top students with an interest in teaching at the pre-kindergarten to high school levels. Fellows receive scholarship money, invitations to special events, and have the opportunity to take a special course designed just for them. Students interested in this opportunity should indicate they plan to pursue a major or minor in Education.
Economics Management Fellows Program Competition
The Department of Economics and The Woltemade Center for Economics, Business and Entrepreneurship offer a unique experience for top students with an interest in economics, management, accounting, and/or international business. Benefits of being a Fellow include taking a special course available only to Fellows, preferential placement in Principles of Economics as an entering freshman, a $1,500 credit at the OWU bookstore disbursed over three semesters of eligibility in the program, invitations to alumni and guest dinners, networking events, and a fully funded, faculty-escorted, alumni-sponsored trip to a major U.S. city such as New York City, Washington, D.C., or Chicago.
Music Merit Scholarship Auditions
The Department of Music offers merit scholarships ranging from $1,000 to full tuition to students planning to major in music as a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Music candidate. An audition is required to be considered for these scholarships and may be scheduled during the Schubert Scholars Competition.
Theatre & Dance Merit Scholarship Auditions
The Department of Theatre & Dance awards several theatre and/or dance scholarships ranging from $1,000 to full tuition to students who are in good academic standing, have significant potential in the Theatre Arts, and plan to major in Theatre & Dance. To be considered for a Theatre & Dance Merit Scholarship, performance students must audition and non-performance students must submit a portfolio of their work by February 15. Auditions and portfolio submission may be scheduled during the Schubert Scholars Competition.
