Student Employment

More than one-third of OWU students are employed during the academic year via our student employment programs. You’ll find numerous opportunities exist for campus employment. Although preference is given to students who qualify through the Federal Work-Study program, abundant employment opportunities are available through the OWU Institutional Student Employment program.

After the freshman year, additional jobs are available through the Student Assistantship Program, offering up to 50 students the opportunity to work on campus, gain professional skills, and receive a stipend for their work.

Federal Work-Study Program

The Federal Work-Study program is funded primarily by the federal government. Federal Work-Study awards are offered as part of annual financial aid packages to students who submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and demonstrate financial need based on their FAFSA information. For information regarding the hiring process and job availability for Federal Work-Study, contact the Student Employment Office located in University Hall.

Institutional Student Employment

This program is funded by the University and is not based on financial need. Students who do not qualify for the Federal Work-Study program may be offered Institutional (or non-Federal Work-Study) Student Employment awards as part of their annual financial aid packages. Information regarding the hiring process and job availability for Institutional Student Employment can be obtained from the Student Employment Office located in University Hall.

Student Assistantship Program (StAP)

In addition to federal work-study and institutional student employment opportunities, a limited number of student assistantships are available. These assistantships provide a monetary stipend as well as professional job experience. The Student Assistantship Program (StAP) offers 40 to 50 upper-class students a chance each semester to gain professional skills by working on campus and to receive a stipend for their work. A variety of positions in many departments and offices are available. Most positions have major responsibilities and utilize skills that students are learning in their classes. New positions are added each semester.
